Join Us for a Discussion On Dynamic Activism with Gene Stilp
If you don't know who Gene is, then you need to come to our October 20th meeting. If you DO know who he is, then you know why we are SO EXCITED !
Gene Stilp is a lawyer-turned-activist who is a master of political theater. He is best know for his large inflatable pink pig and the pink school bus he used to travel around the state and draw attention to the late-night pay raises lawmakers gave themselves in 2005, but, his list of progressive activism is long.
One of his best antics involved a stunt he pulled at a Marcellus Shale Coalition parade in Harrisburg. The organizers had thought of everything ...except Gene! Gene made up a banner that said "Tax the frackers behind me " and with the help of a friend, jumped out and marched in front of the parade, making themselves the unofficial grand marshals. Two people...huge impact...we can learn from this guy!
Gene has a combination of intelligence, energy and artistic genius, that makes him not only an incredible activist, but a very engaging and entertaining speaker.
DON'T MISS IT !
Tuesdays With Toomey Each Week a Different Issue
Tuesday With Toomey are midday gatherings that have been underway since January 2017. They are coordinated by a handful of local activists in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Allentown.Through grass-root means, they touch base to set themes and communicate them to attendees through email lists and Facebook groups.
That is over 130 meetings to voice our concerns to Senator Toomey and his staff. Also the heavy traffic on Cedar Crest Boulevard is overwhelmingly supportive.
According to Linda Wood, KADC Vice Chair:
"If you've wondered whether we've accomplished anything by going to Tuesdays with Toomey week after week, take heart and read the article in the link below.
TwT- Allentown is mentioned nationally! So give yourself a pat on the back, march on, and get your friends and family to join us. We can and do make a difference. We're truly inter-sectional. See you Tuesday with signs, letters, pride and enthusiasm."
So please come and join us if you are able. Tuesdays with Toomey is held in front of the building where Senator Toomey has his Lehigh Valley office, at 1150 S. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown, 18103. This week they are starting the rally at 11:45.
