Reviewing the November Election And Moving Forward in 2020
Join us at our November 17 meeting to discuss the results and start planning for 2020.
The past election certainly was a bit disappointing for those of us in Berks County.
At least we saw some of our neighboring counties in the Phili burbs turn blue. Hopefully, we will be able to join them in the near future.
In the County races we have re-elected Kevin Barnhardt as County Commissioner and John Adams as our District Attorney.
Although they unfortunately lost, Donna Reed, Andrea Jefferson, and Bart Ganster deserve our respect and thanks for running great campaigns. In one of the defeats that is hardest to accept, Fred Sheeler lost his bid for another term as Recorder of Deeds. Fred was doing a fantastic job and his loss affects all of us.
There were many people who stepped up to run for office in our townships and boroughs and school boards. Thanks to all who ran and congratulations to those who were elected.
Tuesdays With Toomey Each Week a Different Issue
Tuesday With Toomey are statewide gatherings that have been underway since January 2017. They are coordinated by a handful of local activists in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Allentown. Through grass-root means, they touch base to set themes and communicate them to attendees through email lists and Facebook groups.
That is over 130 meetings to voice our concerns to Senator Toomey and his staff. Also the heavy traffic on Cedar Crest Boulevard is overwhelmingly supportive.
According to Linda Wood, KADC Vice Chair:
"If you've wondered whether we've accomplished anything by going to Tuesdays with Toomey week after week, take heart and read the article in the link below.
TwT- Allentown is mentioned nationally! So give yourself a pat on the back, march on, and get your friends and family to join us. We can and do make a difference. We're truly inter-sectional. See you Tuesday with signs, letters, pride and enthusiasm."
As Trump inches ever closer to impeachment, the Trump supporters are more re-active. They are showing up more often on Tuesdays at Senator Toomey’s office to counter our protest. TWT is normally held EVERY Tuesday from noon to 1pm. The pro-Trump crowd tries to show up before us, so we've been starting a bit earlier. Please try to make it to Toomey’s this Tuesday by 11am if you can (or at least get there as early as possible). We need to show that there are more of us than there are of them. There are always police present at TWT and it is a civil protest.
So please come and join us if you are able. Tuesdays with Toomey is held in front of the building where Senator Toomey has his Lehigh Valley office, at 1150 S. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown, 18103. This week they are starting the rally at 11:00.
Senator Judy Schwank's Old Fashioned Grange Dinner
State Senator Judy Schwank is having an old fashioned Grange Dinner fund raiser on Friday October 25 at the Kutztown Grange, Kemp Street & James Alley,
Kutztown, Pennsylvania 19530.
Doors open at 6 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm.
If you have never been to this, check it out. It's a great way to spend time with other local Democrats and support Judy.
Polling Place Outreach is an essential part of the work that Fair Districts does. Since 2017, they have gathered more than 60,000 names of voters who are now on record urging legislators to support the creation of an independent citizens commission to draw our congressional and state legislative districts.
