Mark your calendars for this month's
Potluck and Politics on June 28th at 6 p.m. at 240 West Walnut
Street. We'll be showing the film, The End of America, based
on the book by Naomi Wolf. Following the film, Annelies and
Rudy Visser, longtime peace activists, will be our guests
to lead a discussion about the film. Please try to arrive at
the meeting on time. We'll start the film as early as possible
and dine as we watch in order to keep the meeting to a
reasonable length. The film's runtime is about an hour and 15
minutes.

Join us in July for our monthly Potluck & Politics
meeting on July 26th, 6 p.m. at 240 West Walnut Street. NOTE:
Because of the picnic on July 11th (reserve now!!), there will
not be a Business Meeting in July.
This month, our Potluck will feature the film, Do No
Harm, which tells the story of two reluctant
whistleblowers in a small Georgia town who endure relentless
attacks as they struggle to draw national attention to
hospital corruption and the plight of the uninsured.
If needed, we may address a couple of business items at
the beginning of this meeting.

Do
you know about the PA plan for universal single-payer health
care? Are you ready for real reform in
PA? The Family and Business Health
Care Security Act (SB400/HB1660) is a statewide single-payer,
universal health care plan for PA that covers
everyone. It is not European style "socialized medicine." The
health care delivery system of doctors, hospitals, etc. would
not be changed, taken over or rationed. It is not Gov.
Rendell's much weaker "Prescription for Pennsylvania" plan. It
is a single-payer health care financing system, meaning that
health insurance coverage will be provided to all
Pennsylvanians out of a single tax-supported public fund, the
way Medicare is for older citizens on the national
level.

Care! U.S.House Bill 676 - Introduced by
Rep. Conyers of Michigan In 2003, Rep Conyers introduced HR 676, The United
States National Health Insurance Act, co-sponsored by Dennis
Kucinich, (D- OH), Jim McDermott, (D-WA, and Donna Christensen
(D-VI). The bill currently has 37 co-sponsors. Under HR 676,
Medicare is extended and improved so that all individuals
residing in the United States would receive high quality and
affordable health care services. They would get a national
health insurance card, and receive all medically necessary
services by the physicians of their choice, with no
restrictions on what providers they could visits. This
includes primary care, dental, mental health, prescription
drugs, and long term care. Contact John
Conyers for
brief summary of the legislation.
